Our History

We started importing and distributing high quality Beauty Products predominantly for the needs of people of African descent. However, our products are excellent for anyone of any race with difficult to manage hair and dry skin and for those beautiful women of colour out there who are unable to find the right colour cosmetics!

The vision started in 1993 when we introduced very popular brands such as Dark and Lovely Relaxer System and Kings & Queens. Later, we also acquired agency for Black Opal Skin Care & Cosmetics and the luxury grooming products – Ikhala by African Male.  We featured Dark and lovely Relaxer System on TV3 two years in a row showing an easy way to manage and tame coarse/frizzy hair.

We operated one of the very first and finest African Hair Salons from 1995-2005.  This venture was a launching pad for our Hair & Beauty Products distribution in NZ.   Due to popular demand we have now moved to HUNTERS PLAZA SHOPPING MALL, 217 Great South Road, Hunters Corner Papatoetoe.  Our services include, all Braiding styles, Weave Extensions,  make-up station, retail store and a warehouse, all under one roof.  In our customer’s word “ONE STOP SHOP” Pop in and be a witness! 

It was an uphill battle for our products to be accepted in the NZ Beauty Industry. However, with hard work and determination, our products have become very popular in the market place.  In the past few years, some similar businesses have sprung up showing that there is a need for ethnic beauty products in New Zealand.  Amaka Ltd has definitely made it easy for the new Afro businesses springing up!

 Our products are available nationwide through selected Pharmacies, Beauty Shops and Beauty Salons. Our main goal is to ensure that our high quality products are readily accessible throughout the country.
